Val is easily manipulated by critters, including building a backyard gym for squirrels, buying expensive, out-of-season fruit for a pig and saving orphaned opossums and wild ducks. A lifelong animal rescue volunteer, her other hobbies include building a pile of used books that is taller than her house and drinking bucketloads of jasmine green tea.
